  4. About:
  5. DepthApplet© puts a small floating palette on your screen.  From this palette, you may select the desired screen depth.  It was written as an alternative to the various screen depth changing inits and cdevs.  I know that these utilities are a dime a dozen, but I couldn’t find one that was an application, so I wrote one.  My intent was to make an application that was as small and non-intrusive as possible, while still remaining useful, and without the worry and hassle of another init.

  7. Usage:
  8. Everything should be self-explanatory.  You click on the desired bit-depth, and magically (hopefully) it happens.  There are two options in the 'Options' menu.  The first one allows DepthApplet© to remember its position on the screen between quits.  The second option changes whether or not DepthApplet© automatically quits after a new depth is selected.  Various people I talked to wanted it to work each way.  The zoom box on the palette allows you to shrink DepthApplet© to just the window bar, and back to normal.

  11. This will work when run from a read only device such as a CD-ROM, but it will not be able to remember the preference settings, as they are witten to the resource fork of the program itself.  I did not want to go through the hassle of creating a preference file for a program that is under 20k!
